Hello.
My name is Eric Belanger.
I’m an art director, designer, and constant doodler based in the Toronto area.
I guess this is the part where I tell you who I am and what I’ve done.
I’ve been in the industry for a while – with experience in print, online, out of home, direct mail, branding, video, radio and some tv. A few of the clients I’ve had the privilege of working with include: Camp Ooch, GM, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, RBC Royal Bank, Bank of Montreal, Purina, LG, Tim Hortons and Canada Post. Regardless of the medium or client, my goal is to ensure that the work is always strategically sound and aesthetically beautiful.
You might also be wondering, why rectangleboy? It’s not that interesting of a story, but since you’re still reading, I guess I should answer it.
As a kid, I realized that all of my favourite things were delivered in rectangles: cereal, chocolate bars, comic books, toys… As I grew up, all of my new favourites were also delivered in the same manner. movies, magazines, paintings/art, photography, concert stages, modern architecture, Volvo station wagons… From an artistic standpoint, it seemed like this simple, four-sided, equiangular quadrilateral shape was the perfect way to present things that mattered. To this day, I still haven’t been able to disprove this. I mean, just look at this screen you’re viewing this portfolio on. Look at those ratios. Is there anything better?
Lastly, years ago, I started a comic strip called Bob’s Market – just for fun. It’s about an older gent who gets a job working as a cashier at his local grocery store. He’s lazy, cheap, motivated by food and always looking to make a quick buck. Is it good? Maybe. Will it make you smile? Probably. Is it worth checking out? Definitely. Heck, I even have a book for sale in my Illustration section, if you’re interested. The best part? It’s a rectangle.
